Nissan has once again bested themselves with the debut of the 2013 Altima. They have not only updated the look, but also added more driver assist features and increased the fuel economy. Nissan has kept the mechanical components the same with the exception of a few upgrades to improve upon Altima’s already outstanding performance. The look of the new Altima, although not radically different, has been updated to provide a sleeker, more stylish appearance and the interior has been updated to make it more driver and passenger friendly.
The Altima is available with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder or 3.5-liter V6 engine with the continuously variable transmission (CVT). When the CVT is paired with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, it offers a combined 31 mpg, making it the most fuel-efficient member of the midsize vehicle class. The Altima is also available in a number of trims from base to fully loaded. This variety of choices allows you to choose an Altima that is as basic or as high-tech as you are comfortable with. With extras like a sunroof, navigation system, upgraded audio system, the list of additions is almost endless. The Altima has also been noted as one of the better choices for family road trips, taking its comfortable interior and fuel-economy into account.

New York City has set a goal to have at least one-third of its approximately 14,000 taxicabs powered by electricity only by 2020. To start working towards this goal they recently implemented the use of six Nissan Leafs for a one-year trial. At the end of the 12-month period, if the trial is successful as they are sure it will be, they will start replacing their traditional cabs with the Leaf. With only about 46% of New York residents actually owning a vehicle, the need for taxicabs is higher than in any other city in the United States. Even in a large city like Los Angeles, there are only around 2,300 taxicabs on the road. Nationwide, about 80% of people own their own automobile. With taxicabs being an important method of transportation in New York City, the need to have them more fuel-efficient and lessen emissions is becoming a priority. While the Leaf will be a new addition to the fleets, they already began using the 24MPG Nissan NV200 minivans earlier this year. With the new stricter emissions standards only four years away, it is important that all companies that offer for-hire vehicles start working toward replacing their fleets with more fuel-efficient vehicles.
While using the electric-powered Leaf as part of New York City’s most popular alternate form of transportation, this is not a new concept by any means. Back in 1897, Samuel’s Electric Carriage and Wagon Company with an initial fleet of 12 vehicles provided New York City’s first taxicabs. By 1900, the company grew and became the Electric Vehicle Company and by this time had increased their fleet to over 1,000 vehicles. Unfortunately, a large fire in 1907 destroyed about one-third of their fleet and the financial loss led to the demise of the Electric Vehicle Company.
Now, almost 116 years later, New York City is again looking to the efficiency and low emissions of electric powered vehicles to help provide a better future for the city of New York City and the world in general. If you want more information about how you can own a zero emissions and efficient Leaf, the great staff at Permian Nissan can provide you with everything you need. While the Leaf is not readily available at most dealerships, if you want to own one of these great cars, they can help you get one shipped right to the dealership for you. If you are not quite ready for an all-electric vehicle, Permian Nissan has a great selection of new and used Nissan vehicles from the compact fuel-efficient Versa to the family-size Armada SUV. Visit our website or come see us in person and let Permian Nissan help you work toward a more efficient and more earth-friendly future too!

With the deadline from the EPA for fuel-efficiency looming, the push to for automakers to offer more vehicles with higher fuel economy is on the top of the to-do list, Nissan included. While initially most hybrids were only a designated model all their own, many automakers now offer hybrid versions of their popular gasoline powered models. Nissan joined this movement and unveiled the all-new 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid at the New York Auto Show last week.
The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid is powered by a supercharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, 15kW electric motor along and a pair of compact Lithium-ion batteries. Adding the supercharger helps this trio produce 250hp, which is only 10hp less than Nissan’s standard 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine. It also provides an impressive combined average fuel economy of 26mpg which substantially reducing emissions. Exterior updates include a wide chrome grille with aerodynamic headlamps and LED headlamps and hybrid badging that make it distinguishable from the gas powered Pathfinder. The interior of the new Hybrid Pathfinder has all the luxury of its gasoline powered sibling and includes seven passenger seating, three rows of premium leather seats with heated front and second row. Other standard features include an Around View Monitor, Advanced Drive Assist Display, Nissan Navigation System with NavTraffic and NavWeather and Hill Start Assist. The Hybrid Pathfinder will also have the 3500lb towing capacity of the gasoline powered Pathfinder.
While the Pathfinder Hybrid is not scheduled to be arriving at dealerships until late summer or early fall, you can still find a large selection of great vehicles at Permian Nissan. Whether you are looking for the fuel economy of a Versa or the power and space of an Armada, Permian Nissan can help you find the right vehicle to fit your budget and style. Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi assembly plant employees have been very generous since operations began there in 2003. It is estimated that this facility itself has donated more than $7 million dollars to various community organizations as well as serving as volunteers. This year will be no exception as the more than 5,000 employees have pledged to contribute over $350,000 to Capital Area Chapter of the United Way. Since 2005, this location alone has contributed more than $3.5 million dollars to United Way Chapters in Mississippi.
The United Way of the Capital Area encompasses the Hinds, Madison and Rankin county areas of Mississippi. United Way works with member of the community and local businesses to support various attributes of the community. The three most important aspects are investing, advocating and leveraging resources in the area to help solve community issues. Carol Burger, the President and CEO of the United Way of the Capital attributes the success of their programs to the longstanding support from the Canton, Mississippi facility. Nissan, while benefiting the area by providing jobs in income, are still committed to giving back to the community.
Nissan, like other Japanese automakers, are steadily moving operations to the United States. The Canton vehicle assembly plant currently produces the Nissan Altima, Armada, Xterra, both the Frontier and Titan pickups as well as the NV commercial and passenger vans. Later in the year, Nissan is planning to move production of the redesigned Murano to the Canton facility as well as a new addition to the compact end of the Nissan lineup. Adding the additional models will not only make new Nissans more accessible by being built in the United States, it will add more jobs and more money to the local economy.
Nissan has a commitment to build quality, fuel-efficient vehicles, and has a commitment to providing to the betterment of the community as well. Permian Nissan, as part of the Permian Automotive Group, provides the community with not only excellent customer service and a great selection of quality vehicles, but they too give back to the community through a variety of organizations. These include the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program of Lea County as well as Habitat for Humanity just to name a few. If you are in the market for a new or used Nissan, consider a dealership that benefits the community, like Permian Nissan.
Each year for the past 31 years, MotorWeek has brought over 4,600 consumer-oriented vehicle reviews to television. Started by automotive journalist John H. Davis in 1981, the show was originally broadcast on PBS channels. MotorWeek went into syndication in 1993 and it is now seen on many channels across the country. MotorWeek was the first broadcast series in the United States to offer new car reviews, road tests and a variety of other vehicle information to consumers. The show is presented in a magazine format, offering different segments from new car reviews, to road tests and even automotive maintenance tips. MotorWeek and its creator have gained much notoriety for being an authority on anything and everything automotive. Since 1983, MotorWeek has presented the prestigious Drivers’ Choice awards, which nominates vehicles based on their ability to provide consumers with what they are looking for.
Each year the Drivers’ Choice awards are presented at the Chicago Auto Show. This year, the redesigned 2013 Nissan Pathfinder earned the Drivers’ Choice award for the Best Large Utility Vehicle. AutoWeek noted, “For even more evidence of that shift to increased comfort and luxury, look no further than our Best Large Utility, the Nissan Pathfinder.” Other factors taken into consideration when AutoWeek gives out their awards are the price, practicality, performance and more important to consumers, fuel economy. The 2013 Pathfinder not only has a best-in-class towing capability of 5,000 lbs. it also has a best-in-class fuel economy rating of 20 mpg city/26 highway. With AutoWeek basing its awards on what consumers find the most important in a vehicle, the Pathfinder seems to have it all. The Pathfinder seats seven and is available in a variety of trim levels from the basic S version to the Platinum Premium that features options such as leather seating and rear seat DVD entertainment system.
While fuel economy is always a concern for those that require a larger vehicle such as the Pathfinder or Armada, Nissan technology offers powerful vehicles that are still easy on fuel. If you are in the market for a new SUV, or any other type vehicle, Permian Nissan has a large inventory of anything from the subcompact Versa to the Drivers’ Choice award winning Pathfinder and even the larger Armada. If you are looking for something more eco-friendly, Nissan even has the electric Leaf. No matter what you are looking for, let Permian Nissan help you find the vehicle that is perfect for you.
