The 2013 Nissan Altima – Updated and Better than Ever

2013 Nissan AltimaNissan has once again bested themselves with the debut of the 2013 Altima. They have not only updated the look, but also added more driver assist features and increased the fuel economy. Nissan has kept the mechanical components the same with the exception of a few upgrades to improve upon Altima’s already outstanding performance. The look of the new Altima, although not radically different, has been updated to provide a sleeker, more stylish appearance and the interior has been updated to make it more driver and passenger friendly.

The Altima is available with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder or 3.5-liter V6 engine with the continuously variable transmission (CVT). When the CVT is paired with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, it offers a combined 31 mpg, making it the most fuel-efficient member of the midsize vehicle class. The Altima is also available in a number of trims from base to fully loaded. This variety of choices allows you to choose an Altima that is as basic or as high-tech as you are comfortable with. With extras like a sunroof, navigation system, upgraded audio system, the list of additions is almost endless. The Altima has also been noted as one of the better choices for family road trips, taking its comfortable interior and fuel-economy into account.

Is the Nissan Leaf the Taxicab of the Future?

new york taxi trafficNew York City has set a goal to have at least one-third of its approximately 14,000 taxicabs powered by electricity only by 2020. To start working towards this goal they recently implemented the use of six Nissan Leafs for a one-year trial. At the end of the 12-month period, if the trial is successful as they are sure it will be, they will start replacing their traditional cabs with the Leaf. With only about 46% of New York residents actually owning a vehicle, the need for taxicabs is higher than in any other city in the United States. Even in a large city nissan nv200 taxilike Los Angeles, there are only around 2,300 taxicabs on the road. Nationwide, about 80% of people own their own automobile. With taxicabs being an important method of transportation in New York City, the need to have them more fuel-efficient and lessen emissions is becoming a priority. While the Leaf will be a new addition to the fleets, they already began using the 24MPG Nissan NV200 minivans earlier this year. With the new stricter emissions standards only four years away, it is important that all companies that offer for-hire vehicles start working toward replacing their fleets with more fuel-efficient vehicles.

nissan leaf taxiWhile using the electric-powered Leaf as part of New York City’s most popular alternate form of transportation, this is not a new concept by any means. Back in 1897, Samuel’s Electric Carriage and Wagon Company with an electric car companyinitial fleet of 12 vehicles provided New York City’s first taxicabs. By 1900, the company grew and became the Electric Vehicle Company and by this time had increased their fleet to over 1,000 vehicles. Unfortunately, a large fire in 1907 destroyed about one-third of their fleet and the financial loss led to the demise of the Electric Vehicle Company.

permian nissanNow, almost 116 years later, New York City is again looking to the efficiency and low emissions of electric powered vehicles to help provide a better future for the city of New York City and the world in general. If you want more information about how you can own a zero emissions and efficient Leaf, the great staff at Permian Nissan can provide you with everything you need. While the Leaf is not readily available at most dealerships, if you want to own one of these great cars, they can help you get one shipped right to the dealership for you. If you are not quite ready for an all-electric vehicle, Permian Nissan has a great selection of new and used Nissan vehicles from the compact fuel-efficient Versa to the family-size Armada SUV. Visit our website or come see us in person and let Permian Nissan help you work toward a more efficient and more earth-friendly future too!
